One of the assignments for my Google certificate program was to create an app for social good. I choose to create an a free tutoring app because it reminded me of my time as a college student who need help with subjects I was struggling in.
Overview:
-
Product duration: March 5, 2024 – April 29 20
-
Problem: Need to create a responsive website for the Study Buddy tutoring website.
-
The Goal: The goal was to create a Study Buddy mobile app that allowed users to seamlessly book appointments for free tutoring sessions.
-
My Role: UX designer and UX researcher.
-
Responsibilities: User research, wireframing, and prototyping.

Research:
I conducted competitive audits on other tutoring websites, took note of the services they offered, the price of their services, and what made them unique. After my research I determined that that a lot of the tutoring available online were pricey and there wasn’t one that was free. With that information I decided to create the Study buddy App and make it free.

Who would benefit from a free tutoring app?
I began to brainstorm and think of the kind of student that would benefit from using a free tutoring app. I created personas and a journey map to help me envision they type user who would use the app and their emotions using the app.

The Design
To begin the design of the app I started with paper wireframes, created different versions of the homepage, ultimately selecting what I like to most and combined them to create the final version of the app.

I then proceeded to create the digital wire frame of the homepage and the other pages of the app in Adobe XD, I then connected all of the pages, creating the lo-fi prototype of the app.

After receiving feedback from other participants in the certificate program and conducting a moderated usability study with family and friends, I took my findings and made the updates to the hi-fi prototypes. Conducting one more usability study, then took those findings to create the mock ups for the app.
