Problem: Need to design an account creation flow for a networking app for athletes.

The Goal: The goal was to create an account creation flow for The Grind House network on a mobile app and desktop.

My Role: UX designer and UX researcher.

Research
Research:
I conducted competitive audits on other networking websites for athletes, took note of the services they offered to the athletes who used their app. After my research I determined that a lot of the apps catered mostly to runners, not so much to the others sports.
What would make The Grind house app unique?
I wanted to create an app that was not only a networking app, it was also an app that would help athletes get better or gain knowledge in their sport. The addition be able to have access to individuals who could help them improve in their sport would entice new users to sign up. I then created persona’s and journey maps of users who wanted to sign up an gain the benefits of a membership with the Grind House Network.
The Design
The Design
To begin the design of the app I started with paper wireframes, created different versions of the homepage, ultimately selecting what I like to most and combined them to create the final version of the app.
Next step in the process was to create the digital wire frame of the homepage and the other pages of the app, I then connected all of the pages, creating the lo-fi prototype of the app.
I then created the the wire frames for the mobile version of the app.
After receiving feedback from other participants in the certificate program and conducting a moderated usability study , I took my findings and made the updates to the hi-fi protoypes. Conducting one more usability study, then took those findings to create the mock ups for the app.

Takeaways
Being apart of this project, I learned that what you might have had in mind for the project initially, might not be beneficial. You must open to changing ideas especially if the change benefits the user. You must figure out what will attract the users you want, when creating a niche network like this one.
